You know an opshop is going to be a goldmine when it’s tucked away on a side street in an obscure location. I only found out about Zion Bargain Centre in Nundah because they listed their store on the Garage Sale Trail site last October. Since then it’s fast become one of my favourite thrifting spots!
You never know what you’re going to find there…I’ve snapped up everything from killer vintage pieces, to Zimmerman and Josh Goot. And don’t even get me started on their price range…all garments are under $10 and most days they seem to be having a half price sale! So. freaking. good! They also have red spot specials for $1, blue spot specials for 50 cents each or 4 for for $1, and they also have a bargain bin you can rummage to fill a bag for $2!
But one of the best parts about this 30-year-old store is where the funds go. Dawn has been running the opshop for three years and has been able to double the takings so they can make life a little easier for those in aged care.
“Every cent goes to the nursing home next door, to fund special things. We bought a bus so they can go on outings every day, electric beds and low beds because some of them have dementia and want to crawl out,” she said.
There are 40 volunteers on the Zion Bargain Centre team, aged between 5 to 90 years of age and Dawn said she can’t keep them away.
“Some have been here since the day the store opened its doors.”
I have a feeling that it may have something to do with the super cold air conditioning, but there’s something about this super cute cottage opshop that has me coming back too.
